Villages, Workshop & Activity Spaces, Art & Culture Projects at ConFest
ConFest is a community created gathering, the villages, workshop & activity spaces, art projects and performances at ConFest are direct expressions of the diverse ConFest community/ies. Unlike other gatherings and festivals, these spaces are not curated by the organisers and there is no formal registration process. The only requirement for a space to happen is for your group to have all the different kinds of energy needed to make it happen (spaces or activities that pose an unreasonable legal or safety risk may be disallowed).
Villages, workshop & activity spaces are the heart, hearth, brain, soul and magic of ConFest, it's where we come to learn, teach and inspire, to play, dance and sing. It's where we create and grow friendships, families and communities. There is a long and rich history of these spaces at ConFest, some formed by groups of friends, some created by spiritual or cultural groups, some gather around a particular theme, cause or topic of interest, some have formed simply through a happy accident of geography.
Prior to a change in fire restrictions in 2002 most campsites had their own fire/cooking area, the definition of a village ranged from a small group of camps to something more like the large community spaces we have now. To enact the RFS requirements and begin a major shift in the culture of ConFest, DTE began setting up the communal cooking circles that we now know and love. They invited the villages from previous years to adopt these spaces and to create welcoming, diverse, community spaces, and as it turned out, to create communities themselves, some of which are still alive and evolving today. Over the years the communal cooking circles have been an amazing place for communities to form and grow and have functioned a little like training wheels for new villages and community kitchens.
Until about 2016 there were a number of unfacilitated workshop spaces set up around ConFest, very functional, but very basic. Since those spaces stopped happening the ConFest community has stepped up magnificently, and in a few short years we now have at least several dozen facilitated workshop & activity spaces that are colourful, inviting and diverse.
Please note that all healing modalities at ConFest are gifted to the wellbeing of the community and no money may change hands for performing or teaching healing methods, the same goes for all workshops and activities at ConFest.
